In a heartwarming show of community support, the Stray Dogs Center (SDC) shared heartbreaking news on what’s going on with the new land they have been working on for months.
Stray Dogs Center has raised more than half a million dirhams earlier this year to secure a new shelter for their rescued animals. However, recent developments have presented new obstacles that the center must overcome.
The initial fundraising campaign was a tremendous success, reflecting the love and dedication of the UAE’s pet community. The funds raised were intended to purchase a new piece of land to serve as a permanent sanctuary for the rescued animals, providing a more stable and comfortable environment.
Despite the enthusiastic support and significant financial contributions, the journey to establishing the new shelter has encountered several setbacks. The Stray Dogs Center recently shared an update on their Facebook page detailing the challenges they are facing:
The center began working on the new land, hopeful of receiving the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) to license it as a shelter in Al Dhaid. Unfortunately, despite their efforts and the critical rescue work they have done in the area, they did not receive the required approval.
Securing a local sponsor has also proven difficult. The responsibility on the sponsor was considerable, leading to three failed attempts at securing one. Without a local sponsor, transferring the land into the center’s name has become a hurdle.
Currently, the center is in a precarious position, awaiting a response from local government authorities regarding an extension. Their representative has been actively seeking a resolution, explaining the situation and the critical need for a stable location for the 1,300 dogs in their care.
Given these challenges, the Stray Dogs Center is exploring alternative solutions, including freehold industrial land and warehouses that can operate as a dog shelter without requiring a local sponsor. The situation remains stressful, but the center is determined to find a viable solution.
The Stray Dogs Center continues to care for critically injured and abandoned dogs, undeterred by the setbacks. The community’s generous donations remain their saving grace, enabling them to continue their vital work.
The Stray Dogs Center, established in 2013, is a non-profit organization with a “no kill” policy, dedicated to providing care and compassion to stray animals in the UAE. Despite the current challenges, the center remains committed to ensuring a brighter future for their rescued animals.
As the Stray Dogs Center navigates these difficulties, they ask for the community’s continued understanding and perseverance. They will provide updates as soon as they have clearer information. In the meantime, the center appreciates any ongoing support to help them through this challenging period.
