Meet Enzo the Frequent Flyer Dog of Dubai https://www.petwithit.com/meet-enzo-the-traveling-dog-of-dubai/ https://www.petwithit.com/meet-enzo-the-traveling-dog-of-dubai/#respond Sun, 12 Nov 2023 16:18:43 +0000 https://mylisting.petwithit.com/meet-enzo-the-traveling-dog-of-dubai/ Meet Enzo, the dog on a mission to sniff out the world’s wonders! Join us for an exclusive chat with this adventurous canine as we uncover his tales of tail-wagging travels that have captured the hearts of dog lovers in the UAE and beyond!

We had a chance to interview Enzo`s Pawrents to know more about Enzo and their experience traveling

Get to know Enzo the Frequent Flyer

1.Tell us a bit about Enzo and how he became a part of your family.

Enzo is a 3-year-old Italian greyhound boy. He came to us as a 4-month-old puppy in 2020.

Over the years, my husband and I have rescued 3 dogs and 2 cats. After we lost our dogs, and were left with only cats, Enzo came as a surprise birthday present from my husband. This breed has always been my dream, and in 2020 this dream came true.

Enzo was born in Spain, and due to the limited international flight availability due to the pandemic, we had to wait for him for a couple months. He finally joined our family in October 2020.

Enzo loved watching the ducks on the water and exploring the quirky streets in Portsmouth, Devon

2. Traveling with a dog can be an adventure. How did the idea of traveling with Enzo come about, and what inspired you to take him along on your journeys

Enzo is very attached to us, he is a typical velcro dog – very clingy and wants to be with us all the time. When we first got him in 2020 we tried a few different daycares, so he could meet other dogs and socialize, but he hated them all. He likes to play with certain dogs one on one, but he gets anxious in large groups.

When we started planning our summer holiday the following year, it was clear to us that Enzo could not be left behind in a boarding facility. We looked into the logistics of taking him with us to Europe, and decided that this option was the best for our family.

Posing outside of the Parliament building in Budapest

While there is extra cost and inconvenience associated with taking him with us, we would not be able to rest peacefully knowing that he is in stress, had we left him behind. If we go for a short vacation (less than 2 weeks) we just hire someone to stay with him at our house, but anything longer, he comes with us.

3. Can you share some of the destinations you’ve traveled to with him? Are there any places that stood out as particularly dog-friendly?

We have been to Hungary, Estonia, The Netherlands, England and have transited through Finland, and Turkey. Hungary is where we spend most of our time in the summer, and it is refreshing to see how dog friendly Budapest is.

People in Hungary love dogs, and most restaurants and coffee shops allow well behaved dogs to join their owners. In addition, shopping malls, all parks and greenbelts are dog friendly as well.

Posing outside of the Parliament building in Budapest

4. Every traveler has their favorite destination. What’s Enzo’s top travel spot, and what makes it special for both him and your family?

Our families are split between the UK, Estonia and Hungary, and we enjoy travelling to those places – however, it is quite a hassle to travel to the UK with a dog and requires a bit of planning. But totally worth the effort as we love exploring the beautiful nature that Devon has to offer.

Enzo’s first time in London. The city is relatively dog friendly, and we could do a lot of sight seeing with him. Dogs are allowed on the public transportation for free which was great!

5.Traveling often leads to unique and memorable experiences. Could you share one of your most heartwarming or funny travel stories involving Enzo?

We were initially worried about how people would react when they see Enzo on the plane in the cabin, or at the airport when we have a connecting flight. It turns out we needed not to worry!

Most people are very friendly and love seeing a four-legged traveler on their flight. We always get compliments on how well behaved he is and having him with us is a great conversation starter with strangers, as his cute face peeking out of his carrier just melts everyone’s heart.

Waiting for our connecting flight at Istanbul Airport. This is a truly dog friendly airport, where dogs are allowed to walk around on a leash, enter the lounge and shops, and they also have a pet toilet for the four legged travelers

6. Traveling with a pet sometimes can be challenging. What are some tips or advice you’d give to fellow pet owners who want to embark on adventures with their furry friends?

This is so true – our social media may make it look super easy, but traveling with a pet requires a lot of organization, advance planning and extra cost! Enzo’s Mum is a veterinarian, so she has had the experience to deal with the official international paperwork that is required for travel, but pet import and export in and out of the UAE is actually extra complicated.

We loved exploring Manchester with Enzo, and of course he had to pose outside the Manchester United Stadium

I would say this is the number one thing that owners need to look into when they are planning a trip. There are many relocation agencies available in the UAE that can help people with the official paperwork, but the truth is that everything can be organised by the owners, once they learn what is required.

Once we started posting our travels on social media, hundreds of people from the UAE started sending us messages, inquiring about the procedures. We are always happy to help everyone, but to make it easier, this summer we published e-books that outline the step-by-step process of pet import and export in and out of the UAE. People can download these e-books on our website:

https://enzos-escapades.myshopify.com

Pet With It readers can get a discount by using the code “PETWITHIT” for 20% off!

7. Enzo’s Instagram account seems to have a lot of followers who love seeing his adventures. How has sharing his journey on social media impacted your travels and your connection with other pet owners?

Initially, Instagram was just a fun way to document Enzo’s adventures, then one of our reels went viral with over 12 million views, it was featured on multiple broadcast channels and news magazines, which meant that Enzo got famous basically overnight.

Enzo in his element at the Dubai Desert. Camping in the desert is one of our favorite winter activities

It has been a fun adventure ever since. We love connecting with like-minded people from around the world, and share our experiences on traveling with a pet. Interestingly most of our followers are from the USA, with the second largest group of people from the UAE. Having his account so popular, we feel the responsibility to post about our travels, the good and the bad, the wins and the struggles, to help people when they are planning their travel.

We have lots of free information on our Instagram on travel in and out of the UAE, how to enter the UK with a dog in cabin, or how to prepare your dog for a long flight.

8.Lastly, can you let us in on any upcoming travel plans or adventures you have in mind for Enzo? Any exciting destinations on the horizon?

We don’t have anything planned until next summer – both Enzo’s pawrents have demanding, full time jobs 🙂 However we are planning a longer break next year, and plan to travel to Italy and Spain. We have been in touch with Enzo’s full sibling who lives in Spain, and would love to have them reunite.

We were quite shocked when we realized we needed to buy a thick winter jacket for Enzo during our summer vacation in beautiful Estonia. Temperatures were around 15 degrees Celsius with heavy rain in August

Stay tuned for that! Until then Enzo has some photo shoots and video appearances scheduled in town, and we stay active in the UAE with lots of trips camping in the desert, hiking in the mountains and visiting dog friendly cafes and restaurants. We document all of these adventures to help UAE pet owners to plan adventures with the fur babies.

Paddle Pups: A Guide to Kayaking with Dogs https://www.petwithit.com/paddle-pups-a-guide-to-kayaking-with-dogs/ https://www.petwithit.com/paddle-pups-a-guide-to-kayaking-with-dogs/#respond Thu, 12 Oct 2023 04:07:14 +0000 https://mylisting.petwithit.com/paddle-pups-a-guide-to-kayaking-with-dogs/ Are you an adventure enthusiast who thrives on the great outdoors? Eager to find fun ways to connect with your fur baby? Well, hold onto your paddles because we’ve got just the thing for you! Join us on this journey as we delve into the exhilarating realm of kayaking with dogs.

Imagine gliding through serene waters, surrounded by nature’s beauty, while your trusty canine companion sits beside you, tail wagging in pure joy. It doesn’t get much better than that! But before you grab your paddles and head out onto the water, there are a few things to consider.

Benefits of Kayaking with Your Dogs

Kayaking is a fantastic outdoor activity that offers numerous benefits for both humans and dogs. It provides an opportunity to explore beautiful waterways, get some exercise, and bond with your furry friend. But what are the specific advantages of taking your dog along on your kayaking adventures? Let’s find out!

Physical Fitness for both you and your canine companion. Paddling requires strength and endurance, which means you’ll be getting a great workout while enjoying the scenery. Plus, dogs love being active and exploring new environments, so they’ll definitely appreciate the chance to join in on the fun.

Positive Mental Health Benefits for both you and your dog. Being out in nature has been proven to reduce stress levels and increase overall well-being. The peacefulness of gliding through calm waters can help clear the mind and provide a sense of tranquility.

Strengthens the Bond between you and your dog. Spending quality time outdoors creates shared experiences that deepen your connection as you navigate through various obstacles together.

Kayaking with dogs allow them to experience different environments from a unique perspective – floating right alongside you! They will be able to observe wildlife such as birds flying overhead or fish swimming beneath the surface of the water.

Preparing Yourself and Your Dogs for the Kayak Adventure

Before you hit the water with your furry friend, it’s important to make sure both you and your dog are prepared for a safe and enjoyable kayaking experience. Here are some tips to help you get ready:

  1. Assess your dog’s swimming ability: Not all dogs are natural swimmers, so it’s essential to determine if your pup is comfortable in the water. If they’re not confident swimmers, consider outfitting them with a life jacket specifically designed for dogs.
  2. Familiarize your dog with the kayak: Some dogs may find being on a kayak strange or intimidating at first. To ease their anxiety, introduce them to the kayak on land first. Let them sniff around, hop in and out of it, and reward them with treats and praise.
  3. Practice basic commands: It’s crucial that your dog understands basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “come.” These commands will come in handy during kayaking trips when you need to keep control of your canine companion.
  4. Pack essentials for both of you: Remember to bring plenty of fresh water for both yourself and your dog, as well as snacks or treats to keep everyone energized throughout the adventure.
  5. Protect against sunburn: Just like humans can get sunburned while spending time outdoors, so can dogs! Apply pet-friendly sunscreen on areas prone to burning such as noses, ears, bellies, and any exposed skin.

Essential Gear and Safety Tips for Kayaking with Your Dog

When heading out on a kayaking adventure with your furry friend, it’s important to ensure that you have the right gear and take necessary safety precautions. Here are some essential tips to keep in mind:

Personal Flotation Device (PFD):

Just like humans, dogs should wear a properly fitted PFD while kayaking. Look for one specifically designed for canines, with a handle on top to easily lift them out of the water if needed.

Leash:

It’s crucial to keep your dog securely leashed while on the kayak. A hands-free leash that attaches around your waist or deck-mounted clips can be convenient options.

Water and Treats:

Don’t forget to bring fresh drinking water for both you and your pup! Keep treats handy as well – they’re great rewards for good behavior during the trip.

Sun Protection:

Dogs can get sunburned too! Apply pet-friendly sunscreen to exposed areas such as their nose, ears, and belly.

First Aid Kit:

Accidents happen even on calm waters, so pack a first aid kit tailored to meet your dog’s needs. Include items like bandages, antiseptic wipes, tweezers (for removing ticks), and any medications they may require.

Familiarize Your Dog with the Kayaking:

Before hitting the water, introduce your dog to the kayak gradually by letting them explore it on land first. This will help them feel more comfortable when it’s time to hop aboard!

Start Slowly:

Begin with short trips close to shore until both you and your dog gain confidence in kayaking together.

Training Your Dog for a Kayaking Trip

Before embarking on a kayaking adventure with your furry friend, it’s important to ensure that they are properly trained and prepared. Training your dog for a successful kayaking trip will not only make the experience more enjoyable but also help keep both of you safe on the water.

  1. Start by familiarizing your dog with the kayak in a controlled environment. Let them sniff around it, hop in and out, and get comfortable with the motion of being on board. Gradually introduce them to sitting or lying down in the kayak while it is stationary.
  2. Gradually introduce movement by gently rocking it back and forth. This will help simulate the sensation of being on water without overwhelming your pup. Reward them with treats or praise for remaining calm throughout this process.
  3. Practice getting in and out of the kayak from different positions such as docks or shorelines. Teach your dog basic commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “come” to ensure they can follow instructions during boarding and disembarking.
  4. As you progress through training sessions, gradually increase their exposure to different environments such as lakes or rivers with gentle currents. Introduce distractions like other boats or wildlife sounds to prepare them for potential encounters while kayaking.

Remember to always prioritize safety during training sessions by using proper flotation devices for both yourself and your dog. Start off with shorter trips at first before attempting longer journeys so that you can gauge your dog’s comfort level on open water.

With patience, consistency, positive reinforcement techniques, and gradual progression, you can train your canine companion to become an experienced kayaker who is well-behaved both onboard and off!

Gear up and dive in with confidence! Armed with the right prep, training and gear, you’re all set for a kayaking adventure of a lifetime with your dog bestie by your side. Here’s to a paddling experience filled with joy and unforgettable moments! Always prioritize fun, but let’s keep it safe and responsible out there on the water!

The air in Ain AL Sheria hike is cleaner and you can experience sights and sounds that will make your heart feel alive again.

Our friends Mena and Ginger have gone out and explored a new pet friendly hiking spot to share with us.

Ain Al Sheria – Fujairah

Medium 8 KM Hike

Ain AL Sheria hike is one of the most pretty hikes we did so far together. It’s in Fujairah site and the sceneries are just stunning!

To access this location you’ll need to have 4×4 as the road to reach there can be quite tricky and not for newbie drivers.

Ain AL Sheria hiking trail

The hike starts with an elevation gain of 500 meters and that can be quite tough, we ended up stopping a lot of times to catch my breath. But after that is just a lovely hike, path is very well marked and the view when you are walking on the top of the mountains is just amazing!

There are so many goats on this trail. So please be careful if you have a dog that likes to charge them (like Ginger). The trail takes time to finish, so be sure to go early in the morning or around the afternoon when the sun is not su high up as this will exhaust you and your dog quite easily.

At the top you will see some cave paintings on the rocks; please be respectful and don’t touch it!

One of the most fun hikes we did and definitely will try to do again.

Adventure Tails – Al Rabi Tower https://www.petwithit.com/adventure-tails-al-rabi-tower/ https://www.petwithit.com/adventure-tails-al-rabi-tower/#respond Tue, 11 Jan 2022 12:10:09 +0000 https://mylisting.petwithit.com/adventure-tails-al-rabi-tower/ We know how all of you love a good hiking spot – especially with the lovely weather. Who doesn’t want to take advantage of that, right? Our friends Mena & Ginger are taking you to Rabi Tower Trail this time around.

Al Rabi Tower Trail

Al Rabi Tower – Khor Fakkan

Intermediate 4.5 KM Hike

There are two different parking spots in this location, and the GPS takes you to the parking down the hill – wherein if you if you park there you start your hike with a pretty steep uphill that will make you work it!

Tip: If you go early enough (or maybe late enough) you can find parking next to the tower saving you the trouble.

The trail is well marked but there are different routes to reach the summit (some easier than the other). We always choose to go left to start the ascend.

You have a 300m elevation (more and less) so it’s going to be a good workout for sure! Take it easy and do lots of stops if necessary, and if you think about giving up, the view is worth it, we promise!

When you reach the first flag you already have amazing views of the beach, especially during sunset or sunrise. After the big ascend you go down a bit and here you have 2 choices, or you continue for one more summit or you go back to the car.

There are wild donkeys around this trail so be careful of your little hunters.

The trail is under renovations, so if you go during the week, you will find lots of workers, in case your dog is not a fan of them, go during the weekend.

Important: At the beginning of the trail there is a sign saying no pets allowed. We go quite often and never had a problem, but we are fully aware of this and every time we pass someone on the trail I take Ginger out of their way (although she couldn’t care less about people). So maybe this is not the trail for a grumpy dog with strangers.
